United States Championship Match Added To WWE Royal Rumble

Can Humberto Carrillo complete his quest...

On this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, Andrade defended his United States Championship against Rey Mysterio in a Ladder match. El Idolo ultimately emerged victorious after he planted The Master Of The 619 through a ladder with a Hammerlock DDT.

After the match, Andrade went to beat down Mysterio, but a returning Humberto Carrillo made the save, forcing the champion to retreat to the back. After Raw, Carrillo gave an interview in which he challenged Andrade to put his title on the line at the Royal Rumble.

Now, WWE has confirmed Andrade will indeed defend his title against Carrillo on Sunday.

The man formerly known as Ultimo Ninja has been involved in a tense rivalry with Andrade in recent months, and seemingly has the US champion's number. Both Superstars have faced off against each other previously on the December 9 episode of Raw and at the TLC pay-per-view. On both occasions, Carrillo emerged victorious.

This only made the former IWGP Intercontinental champion angry as on December 16, Andrade smashed Carrillo's head against the exposed concrete floor with a Hammerlock DDT, putting the high flying sensation out of action for over a month.

The Royal Rumble takes place on January 26 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. The full card is as follows:

  • Men's Royal Rumble match - Winner will challenge for the WWE Championship or Universal Championship at WrestleMania 36

  • Women's Royal Rumble match - Winner will challenge for the SmackDown Women's Championship or Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania 36
