WWE Confirms NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa's Neck Surgery Happens Today

TakeOver: New York appearance is off the table...

The (black) heartbreaking news that NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa requires neck surgery and will be out of action indefinitely was broken by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio yesterday.

Dave speculated that Ciampa could be out for anywhere between 6-14 months, which is absolutely devastating for a performer who has been involved in one of the most compelling WWE storylines in recent memory over the past year-and-a-half with Johnny Gargano, and only made his main roster debut two weeks ago.

WWE confirmed the news of Tommaso's surgery in a brief statement on their website: "NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa will undergo neck surgery tomorrow, WWE.com has confirmed.

"Following a medical evaluation today, Ciampa has been scheduled for an anterior cervical fusion.

"Stick with WWE.com for more details as they become available."

It had been previously reported that Ciampa was working through an injury in recent times, and was expected to undergo surgery after another big NXT match at TakeOver: New York during WrestleMania 35 weekend.

Everyone at Cultaholic wishes Tommaso the speediest of recoveries!
