WWE Hall Of Famer Sgt. Slaughter Called Out For Falsely Claiming He Served In United States Marine Corps
An old news story resurfaced yesterday...
WWE Hall Of Famer Sgt. Slaughter (real name Robert Remus) has always claimed in kayfabe that he was a drill instructor in the United States Marine Corps, and served in Vietnam between 1966 and 1973.
Remus has continued to repeat claims that he fought in the Vietnam War as recently as February 2019 in non-kayfabe interviews, despite the fact that he never did. Slaughter debuted in AWA in 1972 and never served in the Marines or any other branch of the US Military.
Slaughter's lies resurfaced yesterday as SoCal UNCENSORED tweeted a Baltimore Sun story from March 24th 1985. The story described how Captain James Farrar of the Public Affairs Office of the US Marine Headquarters had received 50 complaints from veterans about Slaughter's use of the Marine uniform.
The Twitter thread then highlighted that even WWE has consistently falsely claimed that Sgt. Slaughter served in the Army as they included him in an article on WWE.com of Superstars who served in the US Military.
The article claims: "Former WWE Champion Sgt. Slaughter's persona as a tough-as-nails Marine drill instructor was no fluke. After graduating from high school, young Robert Remus joined the United States Marine Corps where he earned the moniker "Sgt. Slaughter." It was after his time with the Corps that Sarge began his in-ring career in AWA... In 1980, he let his military pride shine through and became Sgt. Slaughter."
