WWE Introduces New Design For Intercontinental Title

On SmackDown...

A new design for the WWE Intercontinental belt was introduced during a segment involving champion Shinsuke Nakamura and ally Sami Zayn on Friday night's episode of WWE SmackDown in Chicago.

Zayn was doing a promo with Nakamura when he told the titleholder that he had something for him. He then produced the new-look IC title and presented it to Nakamura.

This marks the first new design for the belt in eight years. The last aesthetic change came at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in October 2011, when then-champion Cody Rhodes introduced a throwback design that resembled the classic belt of the eighties and nineties, albeit with a white strap.

Nakamura has reigned as champion since July 14, when he defeated Finn Balor for the belt on the Extreme Rules Kickoff show.

Nakamura is scheduled to wrestle at Sunday's Survivor Series pay-per-view in a triple threat match against United States champion AJ Styles of Raw and North American champion Roderick Strong of NXT, the secondary titleholders of SmackDown's rival brands.
