WWE Raw Viewership Increases As Over 50s Watch In Greater Numbers
However viewers still tuned out as the episode progressed...
On this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, Bobby Lashley and Lana were arrested for assaulting a police officer, Kevin Owens was attacked by the AOP, and NASCAR driver Kyle Busch captured (and then lost) the 24/7 Championship.
Raw also saw an increase in viewership this week, rising from 2.109 million to 2.21 million - breaking a recent trend where ratings have been some of the lowest ever seen on a non-holiday episode of Raw.
Despite this, Raw did lose 28% of its viewers by the time the main event began. During the first hour the show retained 2.418 million viewers, but only 1.739 million stuck around to watch The O.C. vs. Rey Mysterio, Humberto Carrillo, and Ricochet.
An ageing audience is also becoming something of an issue for Raw. The increase in viewership came wholly from people over 50, while the episode performed even worse in the 18-49 demographic than last week. Dave Meltzer noted that part of this will be the fact young people don't watch as much live TV as older generations. He did confirm it was still a worrying trend however, especially as other sports like the NBA and the Premier League were having much greater success in retaining 18-49 year old viewers.
