Adam Cole Surprised By WWE Contract Expiring In July 2021

Adam Cole is All Elite

Adam Cole has admitted he was just as surprised as everyone else to learn his contract with WWE had expired, saying he believed it had another six months to run.

Cole made his shocking debut for All Elite Wrestling at All Out 2021 on Sunday evening, aligning with Kenny Omega and The Elite, just a couple of weeks after making what would be his final appearance for WWE.

Speculation about the former NXT Champion's contract surfaced in July, when the deal is reported to have expired, with Cole confirming he did sign a short-term extension to see through his angle with Kyle O'Reilly.

However, Cole was just as surprised as the rest of the wrestling world to discover his contract had expired in the first place, paving the way for a move to AEW.

When asked in the post AEW All Out media scrum, about his WWE contract expiring, Cole said: "Yeah so, funny enough, believe it or not, I was also surprised. Yeah, I was under the impression that it was like six months later. So it was a surprise to me. It was a surprise to them.

"It was public knowledge for a lot of people that I had signed a little extension, I was in the middle of a really serious angle with Kyle O'Reilly, which was very important to me. He's one of my best friends in the entire world. Then after that is when stuff kind of opened up for me, but very surprising to me. It was just as surprising to me."
