AEW Dynamite Premiere Defeats WWE NXT By Over Half A Million Viewers

Huge first-night win for the upstart...

The highly-anticipated first head-to-head battle between AEW Dynamite's premiere, and the third episode of WWE NXT on the USA Network, ended with the younger promotion winning by a comfortable margin.

Showbuzzdaily reports that AEW Dynamite drew 1.409 million viewers, while NXT did 891,000 viewers, a margin of victory of 518,000 viewers for Dynamite.

NXT's viewership dropped over one hundred thousand viewers from the previous week, falling over 11 percent from 1.006 million.

At one juncture, it was reported that AEW and TNT, internally, were hoping to do 500,000 weekly viewers. How the Dynamite audience will hold over the coming weeks and months ahead remains to be seen, of course.

After the reporting of the overnight ratings earlier Thursday that skewed AEW's way, WWE put out a statement, ahead of the official ratings verdict, that congratulated AEW on the apparent forthcoming confirmation of their win.

Next week's episode of Dynamite in Boston features Jon Moxley taking on Shawn Spears, and an opening round Tag Team title tournament match pitting The Young Bucks against Private Party.

NXT on October 9 features WALTER vs. Kushida, and Cruiserweight champion Drew Gulak vs. Lio Rush.
