MJF comes home to Long Island

We are one week away from ‘Winter is Coming’, but first AEW made a pit-stop in Long Island, MJF country.

It felt like Bizarro land as CM Punk was booed and MJF was treated like a King, with the Salt of the Earth showing somewhat of a human side as he accepted and revelled in the rapturous admiration of his peers. Punk though kicked off the show, coming out to MJF’s music, before insulting the crowd and MJF, and claiming he wants a shot at the AEW World Championship some way down the road…

When MJF came out for the third annual Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royal he was given a hero’s welcome, after an amazing video package talking up his accomplishments in the local high schools and colleges. MJF was all business though as he seeks to win the Diamond Ring for a third year on the bounce, eliminating Wardlow during the course of the battle royal. In the end it came down to MJF and Dante Martin - who eliminated Ricky Starks earlier and severed his ties with Team Taz - and the two will fight for the ring next week. Post-match Starks took his frustrations out on Martin, MJF teased making the save but joined the beat down himself, until Punk made the save.

The main event saw Bryan Danielson continue his spree of violence against The Dark Order when he met John Silver in singles action. Danielson was the aggressor and the veteran, but Silver hung on in and held his own, matching Danielson with kicks and strikes. But this was only ever going to go down one way, getting the submission win before stomping Silver’s head in just like he promised. As Danielson was dishing out violence on ‘The Meat Man’ Adam Page ran in for the save, taking Danielson to the mat and peppering him with punches as he vowed to ‘stomp the cowboy s***’ out of ‘The American Dragon’ next week.

The Young Bucks were back in action taking on CHAOS as NJPW’s Rocky Romero teamed with Chuck Taylor. As expected this was a tight fast paced match, but The Bucks emerged victorious after hitting the Meltzer Driver on Romero. Post-match Adam Cole and Brandon Cutler ran in to deliver an almighty beatdown on CHAOS, with Wheeler YUTA and Orange Cassidy bearing the brunt of the attack. When SuperKliq went for the triple BTE Trigger, Sue’s mini-van pulled up and Trent made his return, sending The SuperKliq packing.

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Riho continued her come-back with victory over an impressive Jamie Hayter ahead of her match against reigning AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker. Baker and Rebel tried interfering on Hayter’s behalf but it backfired, and post-match Baker took out her frustrations on Riho, delivering a beatdown to the inaugural champ.
