AEW: Dynamite Grand Slam Results - September 22, 2021

All the action from AEW’s New York City debut

The biggest show in AEW Dynamite history as Dynamite rolled into Arthur Ashe Stadium, Queens, New York.

And things kicked off in dream match territory; Danielson vs. Omega. The crowd were on fire for this, and both men left nothing on the table. Whether fighting on the ramp, on the top turnbuckle, or on the mat, Omega and Danielson beat the living hell out of one another. Danielson delved deep into the American Dragon playbook, busting out the Regalplex and Cattle Mutilation and telling the ref 'he had 'til five', whilst Omega was dropping Snapdragons and V Triggers like they were going out of fashion. There was no way this one as going to end decisively, and it didn’t, as the clock ticked down to the 30 minute mark, and we had a time limit draw as Danielson readied for the LeBell Lock having worked Omega's arm for the manoeuvre all match.

Post-match, Danielson left Omega with a parting gift and locked in the LeBell Lock, but all it did was bring out the Super Kliq who threw a Superkick Party in Danielson’s honour. Jurassic Express and Christian Cage ran out to make the save, and those six will clash on Rampage.

Tonight’s main event was Britt Baker putting the AEW Women’s World Title on the line against Ruby Soho. A fired up Ruby came out swinging, and the two brawled all over the ringside area, with DMD hitting a swinging neckbreaker on the outside. Britt nailed Ruby with a crunching curb stomp for a near fall, but Ruby fired up, hit the No Future, but was distracted by Jamie Hayter, allowing Baker to lock in Lockjaw and get the win.

Cody Rhodes made his return to the ring, accompanied by Arn Anderson and a returning Brandi Rhodes, as he took on Malakai Black. Boos rained down on The American Nightmare as he went for Black, but Malakai was seemingly one step ahead of Cody at every turn. Cody did plant Black with a Crossrhodes but it wasn’t enough, but after Cody accidentally collided with Arn on the apron, his focus was gone. Black eventually got the win after spraying black-mist into Cody’s face, and left the ring 2-0 against Rhodes.

A fired up CM Punk aired his anger at Team Taz after their sneak attack last week. Punk said he’s been enjoying life recently, but Team Taz wanted nothing more than to p*** him off, and on Rampage Punk will put Powerhouse Hobbs to sleep.

An nWo inspired FTR took on Sting and Darby Allin in tag team action. Sting rolled back the years as the two teams went back and forth, with the Stinger eventually getting the Scorpion Deathlock on Dax Harwood for the victory, as Darby nailed Cash Wheeler with the Coffin Drop.

Elsewhere; MJF defeated Brian Pillman Jr. Chris Jericho and Jake Hager sent a warning to Dan Lambert and The Men of the Year.
