WWE star AJ Styles has revealed that WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker wouldn't 'return his calls' following their Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36 (Night One), because The Deadman knew The Phenomenal One would try to convince him to come out of retirement for one more bout.

Speaking with Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc., Styles commented on the Boneyard Match, saying:

"It was a fun match that people can look back and go, 'that was great'. And if he thought that it was good enough for him to go, 'you know what, I am good with hanging it up on that one', that makes me feel good".

AJ lamented the fact that he never got to wrestle The Undertaker in a more conventional setting and sensed that the positive reaction to the Boneyard Match would lead to The Phenom calling it a day.

"I think we all knew that once the Boneyard match got the reaction that it did, that might be it. I called, and he didn’t return my calls. Because he knew, 'hey, he's going to convince me to have another match'", said Styles.

The Undertaker formally retired at Survivor Series 2020 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame class of 2022. During his Hall of Fame induction speech, he did say 'never say never' when fans began chanting for him to have 'one more match'.
