Angel Garza Was Certain Of Being Drafted To WWE SmackDown Due to Lack Of Latino Representation

Garza and Humberto Carrillo were swapped to SmackDown

Angel Garza has revealed he and Humberto Carrillo were certain they were going to be drafted to Friday Night SmackDown during the 2021 WWE Draft to ensure there was Latino representation on the brand.

Garza and Carrillo were drafted from Raw to SmackDown during Night Two of the Draft in October and Garza has admitted the tag-team didn't initially expect to be moving rosters this year.

However, as the duo watched the rest of the Draft unfold, Garza noted that Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio and Zelina were traded to Raw, and became certain he and Carrillo would get switched to ensure SmackDown still had Latino representation.

Speaking to WWE Espanol, Garza said: "When we were looking at the draft, we did not know a thing about where we were going, we were just in the locker rooms looking at what was happening.

"We noticed that Rey & Dominik went to Raw and saw Zelina move too and we thought SmackDown is without Latinos, and one of two things were going to happen: We were getting drafted over there or Damian (Priest) was leaving Raw. Us two (him & Humberto) were with Damian and we were saying 'or you leave or we leave' and then we saw Damian was drafted to Raw and we were 99% certain we were going to SmackDown because there were no Latinos at the moment.

"When we saw our names for SmackDown, we went 'we from here now' and it was a surprise. Like for everyone watching at home, we did not expect to be drafted to SmackDown."
