Anthony Bowens Comments On Fan Yelling Homophobic Slurs During AEW Tapings

Bowens is openly gay

Anthony Bowens is one of a handful of openly gay wrestlers plying their trade in a big promotion, but is part of a growing minority helping to give the LGBT wrestling community a voice on mainstream television.

Unfortunately, some wrestling fans hold bigoted views, and Bowens was recently the target of homophobic abuse during recent AEW tapings, and his spoken of the incident with TMZ Sports:

"Unfortunately that kind of stuff comes with the territory, being an out LGBTQ athlete. This is actually the first time that I've audibly heard something like that during a performance or during television,” said Bowens.

The Acclaimed member says that kind of abuse rolls of off him, and this has thankfully been an isolated incident during his time with AEW:

"I have really thick skin, I'm kind of used to it from my boyfriend Michael and I, we have our YouTube channel and when we first started that the comments were brutal, I can't even repeat them.

“This is not indicative of the AEW fans at all," Bowens continued. "Any interactions I've had with them since starting the company have all been positive."
