Report: Backstage Reaction To Edge Vs. Randy Orton At WWE WrestleMania 36 Revealed
The match has divided opinion...
Apr 17, 2020
At WrestleMania 36, Edge competed in his first one on one match in nine years as he faced Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match. The fight ended up being the second-longest match in WrestleMania history, only being eclipsed by Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels in an Iron Man match at WrestleMania 12. It also included a controversial spot where Orton trapped The Rated-R Superstar with gym equipment only days after the Chris Benoit episodes of Dark Side Of The Ring were broadcast.
The match has divided opinion in the wrestling world as some fans didn't mind it being so long because it was presented as a fight, while others have said they were bored after 20 minutes. Edge himself didn't take too kindly to the criticism as he told Corey Graves on the After The Bell podcast that the negativity only came from a "minuscule militia of malcontent" who "enjoy not enjoying things."
The bout also divided opinion backstage in WWE. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he had heard from people inside the company who "hated it" and staff were very much split down the middle on the match. All agreed that the fight was far too long, however.
