Becky Lynch is the new WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion, having defeated Lyra Valkyria in the third match at the WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view on Saturday, June 7.
The two competitors had another very good match and the action devolved into a pinning exchange in the final moments, with Lynch scoring the pinfall win after grabbing a handful of tights. Valkyria then honoured the stipulation and raised Lynch's hand, even doing so to all four corners of the Intuit Dome. Valkyria then put the belt around Lynch's waist, as requested, but the former champion ended up standing tall as she took out Lynch with a German Suplex and Nightwing.
Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria have been feuding since the Raw after WrestleMania 41 when Lynch turned on Valkyria in the moments after they lost the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles. They first faced off at Backlash, with Valkyria emerging victorious on that occasion. A rematch was instantly set up, though, as Lynch attacked Valkyria post-match.
The rematch was made official on the May 26 edition of Raw with the stipulation that Valkyria would raise Lynch's hand if Becky Won, while Becky would never be able to challenge for the Women's Intercontinental Title again if Lyra won.
Becky ultimately won at Money in the Bank, though, ending Lyra Valkyria's reign after 146 days. Valkyria became the inaugural Women's Intercontinental Champion on the January 13 episode of Raw and successfully defended the belt against Dakota Kai, Ivy Nile, Raquel Rodriguez, and Bayley before beginning her programme with Becky Lynch.
