Belief Within WWE Is Nick Aldis Is A Better Wrestler Than Several Regular TV Talents

Three years on from his most recent match, Nick Aldis returned to the squared circle at SummerSlam 2026, facing off with Gunther on night one of the pay-per-view, and there has been plenty of praise for the two-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported the belief within WWE is Nick Aldis will wrestle again for the company following SummerSlam. Another match might not happen until 2027, but the claim from one source was a number of people backstage believe Aldis is as talented, if not more talented, than several wrestlers who regular perform on WWE programming.

Those same backstage names want to see Aldis have a significant in-ring run with WWE. That appears unlikely at this stage, however, as Aldis has since resumed his on-screen role as SmackDown general manager following SummerSlam, which suggests any in-ring escapades for the 39-year-old would be sporadic.

Aldis impressed inside the squared circle against Gunther to the point he received "You've still got it" chants from the fans inside US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Aldis had been a full-time wrestler until he signed with WWE in 2023, at which point he became an on-screen authority figure.
