Big E Wins WWE Championship After Successful MITB Cash-In

He cashed in as promised

Big E is the new WWE champion, after defeating Bobby Lashley in the main event of Monday Night Raw in Boston, upon the cash-in of his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Lashley had just defeated Randy Orton in a 13-minute championship match, pinning Orton following a spear. After the match, Lashley appeared to tweak his knee while attacking both Orton and Riddle at ringside. That's when Big E hit the ring to formally challenge for the belt.

Early on in the brief match, Big E managed to take Lashley's knee out, but Lashley countered The Big Ending with a spear for a near fall. Big E then escaped a Dominator, countering with The Big Ending to win the title.

Big E becomes the 54th different individual to hold the WWE championship. He also becomes the second member of The New Day to hold the WWE championship, after Kofi Kingston previously won the title at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.

Lashley's reign officially ends at 196 days. He won the title from The Miz on the March 1 edition of Monday Night Raw.
