Brian Cage has not competed inside an All Elite Wrestling ring in nine months since he lost an FTW Title match to Ricky Starks on the October 6, 2021 episode of Dynamite.

Ideas for Cage's AEW in-ring return have been suggested during his time away, including him losing a match to Wardlow, and The Machine recalled speaking to Tony Khan about that pitch and his lack of TV time during a K&S Wrestlefest signing.

"Actually Tony [Khan] - and I didn't even mention it but, he said that too [addressing the idea of bringing Cage back to TV to lose to Wardlow] because he obviously heard or people thought that I was going to and he goes, 'Yeah, people brought that up to me' and he's like, 'No way, I wouldn't job you out to Wardlow like that. You're too big of a star to do that to' so, I mean he paid me a compliment in that regard," Cage said.

"But...and that's one thing I was talking to him about like, you know, I'm not being used. I'm like, 'Dude, this sucks. What's going on? I wanna wrestle' and that was one thing he said too, he was just like, 'Well I could be bringing you on TV and just having you lose to everybody. That would really be burying you as opposed to using you.' I guess so, and that's when he brought up the Wardlow thing."

Cage has found a home in Ring Of Honor in recent months and The Machine is part of a reformed Embassy with Kaun, Toa Liona, and Prince Nana. The group was previously Tully Blanchard Enterprises but Prince Nana revealed at Death Before Dishonor that he had bought the stable.
