Bryan Danielson Provides Health Update, Doesn't Think He Can Wrestle PPV Main Event Matches

Bryan Danielson reveals his neck is not feeling great

Bryan Danielson will very shortly be closing the chapter on his time as full-time wrestler, and not only will it provide him with more family time, but it will take less of a toll on his body. Danielson is heading into Forbidden Door 2024 to face Shingo Takagi in the Owen Hart Tournament, looking to earn a shot at the main event of All In 2024 for the AEW World Championship.

When speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Danielson said that his current physical condition is not great, and that he doesn’t seem himself capable of wrestling big world title PPV main events. He explained that his “neck isn’t doing too great right now”, before saying that he isn’t really interested in the world title.

“I don’t want to be in that [world champion] position–I don’t feel like that’s my position anymore. The quality of wrestling in AEW is so high, it’s really hard to main-event pay-per-views. That’s not something my body can really do anymore. I know there are a percentage of fans who would like that, but I don’t think it’s my place. And here’s the truth: I don’t want anything to do creatively with my own stuff. I also don’t know where people get the notion that I do. It’s very hard in wrestling to be objective about yourself, so I leave that in the hands of other people. That was the same thing in WWE, even when I was part of the creative team. The head writer of SmackDown at the time, Ryan Callahan, asked me what I wanted to do, and I remember saying I didn’t want to talk about what I wanted to do. I don’t think you can be objective about that stuff.”

If Danielson is victorious in the Owen Hart Cup, he will in fact be in a PPV main event, taking on either Will Ospreay or Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Title.
