Buddy Matthews Potentially Cleared For AEW Return

Buddy Matthews has seemingly been cleared for an in-ring return to All Elite Wrestling, over a year after his last match.

Matthews last wrestled in February 2025 in a losing effort against Kazuhcika Okada in his homeland Australia at AEW Grand Slam, suffering a severe ankle injury before the bout which later required surgery.

Taking to social media, Matthews posted the following, indicating his return could come sooner rather than later:



“The Devil signed the clearance. Hell stamped its approval. No more barriers. Only timing.”

Many expected the news, with Matthews having made a surprise appearance for Australia’s World Series Wrestling in May 2026, ahead of revealing he will be wrestling for the promotion in October/November

There is no concrete word on when Matthews will return to AEW TV, nor what his direction will be upon his arrival. Prior to his injury, Matthews had just formed the Hounds of Hell alongside former House of Black stablemates Brody King and Julia Hart. However, with King aligned as Bandido as Brodido, and Hart part of the Triangle of Madness alongside Thekla and Skye Blue, it is doubtful the Hounds reunite any time soon.
