New WWE Women's Tag Team Champions were crowned at SummerSlam as Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair defeated Judgment Day's Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez on night one of the pay-per-view from MetLife Stadium.
The challengers initially looked to be on course for a loss following plenty of Judgment Day dominance and a punch to the face from Bliss to her tag team partner. Bliss managed to recover, though, and while a Charlotte Flair heel turn was teased, Flair instead took out Rodriguez with a Big Boot before Bliss connected with Sister Abigail to Perez for the win.
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss only began teaming together on the July 4 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, having united as a team following several weeks of teases. They failed to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in a four-way at Evolution, and the original plans were reportedly for Bliss and Flair to face each other at SummerSlam, but those plans were scrapped at the request of Charlotte.
The win from Bliss and Flair ended Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez’s reign with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles after 34 days. Rodriguez had held the gold with Liv Morgan since the Raw after WrestleMania 41, but Morgan sustained a freak shoulder injury on the June 16 edition of Raw and has been out of action ever since, with Perez replacing her as champion.
Alexa Bliss is now a four-time WWE Women's Tag Team Champion, and Charlotte Flair is a two-time WWE Women's Tag Team Champion courtesy of their win at SummerSlam.
