Christian Cage Defeats Kenny Omega To Win Impact World Title On AEW Rampage

Rampage's lifetime kicks off with a bang

Christian Cage is the new Impact World Heavyweight champion, after defeating Kenny Omega in the opening match of the first ever AEW Rampage broadcast in Pittsburgh on Friday night.

Late in the lengthy bout, Don Callis distracted referee Brian Hebner, allowing Omega to strike with a low blow on Cage. The Young Bucks then hit the ring and handed Omega a steel chair. With Hebner still distracted, Omega attempted a One Winged Angel onto the chair, only for Cage to drop out and deliver his Killswitch onto the chair for the win.

After the match, Cage celebrated with both Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy. Impact showrunner Scott D'Amore was also present during the celebration.

For Cage, the win gives him his fifth career World title. He twice held WWE's World Heavyweight title in 2011, and twice held the NWA World title when it was used as Impact's primary belt in the mid-2000s.

Omega's Impact World title reign ends at 110 days. He'd been champion since April 25, when he defeated Rich Swann for the belt in a title for title match.

Omega will defend the AEW World Heavyweight title against Cage at All Out on September 5 in Chicago.
