Claudio Castagnoli Wins The ROH World Championship At Final Battle 2022

It seems that the reports of the Blackpool Combat Club’s demise were greatly exaggerated, as Claudio Castagnoli emerged from ROH Final Battle with the ROH World Championship back around his waist after defeating Chris Jericho in the main event of the show.

Jericho focused on the ‘Swiss Superman’s back for the majority of the match, hitting Castagnoli with a big suplex to the floor from the apron, and locking in an extended Walls of Jericho in the middle of the ring, but the big man was made of sterner stuff, fighting out of everything Jericho hit him with. Not even a shot to the face from Jericho and Floyd the Bat could end things, as Claudio got the Giant Swing on Jericho, with ‘The Ocho’ submitting mid swing to end the match.

Certainly a unique ending, and one very fitting to end the ROH World Title reign of a self confessed ‘Sports Entertainer’, as Claudio becomes one of only a few men to lift the ROH World Title on more than one occasion, joining the likes of RUSH, Jay Lethal, and Adam Cole in a very exclusive club.

Post-match, Claudio was joined in-ring by BCC team-mate Wheeler Yuta, who himself had a successful night after defeating Daniel Garcia to regain the ROH PURE Championship. Now that’s entertainment.
