Cody Rhodes Confirms His AEW Contract Has Expired

Wrestling on a handshake deal

Speaking in a post-match interview on AEW's YouTube channel following his TNT Title loss to Sammy Guevara, Cody Rhodes confirmed his contract with the promotion has expired.

Cody said, in part: "There are so many elephants in the room. This is an insane week in wrestling. People think that the Sean Ross story is BS, it's not. I'm working here without a contract. I'm not even on payroll anymore. I'm working here on a handshake deal. That is 100% legitimate, I swear on Pharaoh's life."

Rhodes' AEW contract reportedly expired at the end of 2021. Both parties are said to be working on a new deal, though.

The American Nightmare was one of the founders of All Elite Wrestling in January of 2019 with Tony Khan, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks and he was or still is an Executive Vice President in the promotion.

As a talent, Cody is a three-time TNT Champion and he has also had memorable feuds with the likes of MJF and Chris Jericho.
