Cody Rhodes Planning To Honour His Independent Wrestling Run At WWE WrestleMania 39

Cody Rhodes will honour the indies at WWE WrestleMania 39

Cody Rhodes will honour his independent wrestling run at WrestleMania 39, he has revealed.

Rhodes noted to Peter Rosenberg of HOT 97 that his weight belt at a "specific PLE" will feature every independent wrestling promotion he worked for. Rhodes later noted on My Mom's Basement that the "specific PLE" will be WrestleMania.

"Small spoiler I guess, I was trying to come up with this idea for a weight belt for a very specific PLE or pay-per-view, whatever you wanna call it where I wrote every independent promotion I worked at on it, because that was the most important thing I did was this connection with these fans and getting to know them and grassroots and that became really my bread and butter," Rhodes said.

Following his WWE release in 2016, Rhodes worked on the independent wrestling scene for the likes of Global Force Wrestling, Northeast Wrestling, WCPW, EVOLVE, NWA, DEFY, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. Rhodes worked for these promotions alongside his runs in Ring of Honor, TNA, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling until he formed AEW in January 2019.

Rhodes is set to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. He will face the winner of Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber on February 18.
