Had recently signed long-term deals...

Had it not been for WWE's sudden motivation to begin letting go talents en masse, a few of those released wrestlers were fixing to be with WWE for a long time to come.
As Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful pointed out, Mike and Maria Kanellis, as well as Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, were all under contract with WWE until mid-2024. The four all signed new five-year deals last year.
Despite asking for their releases earlier in 2019, the Kanellis' both re-signed with the company in mid-June. Four months later, following the ill-received storyline in which he was routinely emasculated by his wife, Mike Kanellis asked for his release once more in October.
Gallows and Anderson both reportedly turned down new deals from WWE in March 2019. Though many speculated that the two former Bullet Club members could be AEW-bound, due to their history with the members of The Elite, it was reported in the first week of July that Gallows and Anderson opted to stay with WWE, signing off on new five-year deals.
Current WWE performers locked into deals that last (at least) into 2024 include The New Day, Mandy Rose, Randy Orton, The Miz, Jinder Mahal, and Lana.
