While 2021 has been another big year for professional wrestling, the biggest story of the year has been a wholly negative one.
With the birth of All Elite Wrestling in 2019 and Triple H’s global localisation strategy, WWE entered a ‘talent stashing’ mode, simply re-signing wrestlers just so they could sit at home and do nothing, all to make sure they didn’t work for someone else.
That doctrine grew shaky in 2020 following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and completely collapsed in 2021, with 81 Superstars having been released since WrestleMania 37.
From stars like Keith Lee and Bray Wyatt to up-and-comers like Blake Christian to everyone in between, WWE haven’t been concerned about wishing people well in their future endeavours.
