Dave Meltzer Provides Suggestion To AEW's Tony Khan Over Sting's Retirement

Dave Meltzer making suggestions to Tony Khan over Sting's retirement

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer may have an impact on how All Elite Wrestling decide to book Sting's retirement match.

The former WCW, NWA, and TNA World Heavyweight Champion revealed last week that he will retire from pro wrestling at Revolution 2024, three years on from his first AEW match.

There is no word on what exactly AEW are planning for Sting's retirement but Dave Meltzer revealed on McGuire on Wrestling that he reached out to Tony Khan about what the AEW CEO should do for Sting's final bow.

"I don't remember if I sent - talked or emailed Tony Khan, but I definitely contacted Tony Khan after that final NOAH match that [Great] Muta wrestled and I go, 'This is your template.' You know what I mean. Whenever it comes time for Sting, look for this for ideas because [Pro Wrestling] NOAH did such a phenomenal job," said Meltzer.

The Great Muta had his final match on January 22 when he teamed with Sting and Darby Allin to take on HAKUSHI, AKIRA, and Naomichi Marufuji. Keiji Muto then had his retirement match inside the Tokyo Dome on February 21 in a show that also celebrated the lives of Shinya Hashimoto and Mitsuharu Misawa. Muto initially lost to Tetsuya Naito before his surprise final match when he lost to fellow 'Three Musketeer' Masahiro Chono.
