Drew McIntyre Vs. Sheamus Announced For March 17 WWE SmackDown

Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus Has Been Announced For Next Week's SmackDown To Determine GUNTHER's Next Challenger

It looked as though the challenger for GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Championship would be revealed on the March 10 episode of SmackDown, but fans will have to wait another week for a definitive answer.

During a fatal five way match to determine the number one contender at WrestleMania 39 that also featured Xavier Woods, LA Knight, and Karrion Kross, both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre picked up simultaneous pinfalls to each score the victory. After previous rumours of a triple threat match, it seems as though this confirmed it. However, there was another element added to this story.

GUNTHER was unhappy since he wanted just one singular challenger at WrestleMania, so Adam Pearce set up a match for the March 17 episode of SmackDown between Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, with the winner getting that title shot. Whether this will end up being another draw or someone decisively winning to ensure a singles match remains to be seen.

GUNTHER has been Intercontinental Champion since June 2022, when he defeated Ricochet for the gold. Drew McIntyre is a former Intercontinental Champion, while Sheamus has noted on multiple occasions that he returned in 2020 to pursue the IC belt.
