El Hijo del Vikingo is due to undergo surgery after suffering an injury last week, the reigning AAA Latin American Champion has revealed.

El Hijo del Vikingo sustained a knee injury on Tuesday, June 30 while he was preparing for a match against EK Prosper on that night's episode of NXT. Vikingo was written off NXT during the show by a lead pipe attack from Keanu Carver, but the luchador's last televised match was actually the July 3 episode of SmackDown as the show was taped on June 29.

Vikingo was expected to be out of action for some time after reports noted his knee injury could be serious. WWE's plans for the AAA Latin American Championship are currently unknown.
