Elias Replaces Shane McMahon in WWE Fastlane 2021 Match Against Braun Strowman

A change to the advertised Fastlane match

The advertised match between Shane McMahon and Braun Strowman did not take place at WWE Fastlane 2021, with McMahon replaced by Elias instead.

During the Fastlane pre-show, WWE showed footage of McMahon sustained what appeared to be a knee injury during a training session earlier in the day, before 'The Best In The World' was then seen to leave the medical room with ice strapped to his leg and using a crutch.

Accosted by Elias about a spot at WrestleMania 37, McMahon instead accompanied him to ringside before informing him that he would be taking McMahon's place in the match with Strowman.

Elias would lose the match, being pinned by Strowman following a running powerslam.

WWE had been inconsistent in their advertisement of the McMahon Vs. Strowman match at Sunday's event. After the contest was confirmed for Fastlane after Raw, the match was added to and then pulled from WWE.com, but the company continued to plug the match on television up until the Fastlane pre-show.

It seems likely that the eventual meeting between the two will now take place at WrestleMania 37 in April.
