EXCLUSIVE: Scrapped Pitches For Anthony Ogogo Vs. Cody Rhodes At AEW Double Or Nothing Revealed
Cody Rhodes vs. Anthony Ogogo at AEW Double Or Nothing could have looked very different
Nov 14, 2022
When Anthony Ogogo and Cody Rhodes crossed paths in AEW it kicked off a series of events that ended with a monumental clash pitting USA vs. Britain at Double or Nothing 2021.
The match however, was seen by some as a missed opportunity, with AEW criticised for going to the tired ‘USA vs. The World’ well for a modern bout. However, when speaking to Cultaholic’s Tom Campbell on Desert Island Graps, Anthony Ogogo himself revealed that he asked for some extra presentation to help add some pomp to the bout and increase the USA vs. UK sentiment:
“I asked for the anthems. They said no for certain reasons. I asked for people dressed up as beefeaters. I asked for that, we didn’t get it. I asked for a few things to really ramp it up. The match was good, could have been really good. We actually lost six minutes of our match because of time constraints, I think the battle royal before went heavy. We filmed a really cool like Rocky montage beforehand but we had to cut that because of time. We had to cut around 40% of our match.
“We had a big meeting after that about how to stick to their times because it’s not fair people having their matches scuppered because of other people’s unprofessionalism,” said Ogogo.
Ogogo may not get beefeaters but he should get a heroes welcome at PROGRESS Wrestling Chapter 146: They Think It’s All Over, where he will team with Adebayo Akinfenwa against Malik and Kosta. Get tickets for the event here.
