Fantasy, Logical, Dubious, Wildcard: Who Will Win AEW's Casino Battle Royale?
Who should go on to face AEW Champion Kenny Omega? We propose some candidates.
Logical - Christian Cage
It’s been nearly three months since Captain Charisma rocked up to AEW at Revolution, and so far the Peep-master has three wins under his belt. Not a great return considering this averages out at a little over a win a month.
However, Cage has already crossed paths with Omega on Dynamite back in March, and a title clash between the two seems almost inevitable. And when you look at the confirmed field for the Casino Battle Royale, Christian stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Leading into Double Or Nothing, Christian has been pretty much the only featured talent from the Battle Royale, with a quick promo on the May 12 edition, before a comprehensive victory over fellow participant Matt Sydal on May 19. Really, the only other potential winner from the pack could be Penta, but a Cage/Omega mini feud is certainly a fresher story.
The other thing is that Cage vs. Omega doesn’t have to be a massive long-winded feud either. Cage can turn up, win the Battle Royale, say there’s life in the old dog yet, and main event a special edition of Dynamite with Omega, before valiantly losing to the Best Bout Machine.
Whether this is just to maintain a strong TV rating, or even a main event to close out the first Dynamite on TBS or the debut edition of AEW: Rampage on TNT, it’s a match-up that could potentially draw a fair few new eyes to AEW.
For the potential title match itself, for all that many of us rolled our eyes at Christian turning up to AEW, the man is still a hell of a wrestler, and a match-up between Cage and Omega would be ‘very good’ at an absolute minimum. So if Cage really wants to ‘outwork everybody’ then frankly it’s put up or shut up time for the former NWA World Champion.
