Former WWE, WCW Referee Mickie Jay Passes Away

The longtime official was 59

Veteran wrestling referee Mickie Henson, known mostly by the name Mickie Jay during his career, passed away on Monday evening due to complications of pneumonia related to COVID-19, according to a report from journalist Mike Mooneyham.

Henson was 59 years old.

Henson started as a referee in 1987 in Florida Championship Wrestling. He also wrestled, appearing as an enhancement talent for WWE on weekend syndicated programs in the early nineties.

Starting in 1992, Henson became a referee in World Championship Wrestling, and stayed with the company up until its 2001 closure. Notable matches officiated by Henson include Kevin Nash's "streak-breaking" win over WCW World champion Goldberg at Starrcade 1998, as well as Bret Hart and Chris Benoit's tribute to Owen Hart the following year.

Henson eventually joined WWE as an official in 2005, using his given surname (likely due to its similarity to the recently-debuted Mickie James). He generally worked as an official on SmackDown and ECW, until being pulled off the road in 2008 due to health issues. Henson parted ways with WWE the following year.

Cultaholic extends its condolences to Mr. Henson's family and friends.
