Goldberg has announced his retirement match will happen next year
Nov 3, 2024
Ever since his appearance at the Bad Blood 2024 premium live event, there has been a lot of talk of Goldberg returning to the ring after several years away, last competing against Roman Reigns in a losing effort at Elimination Chamber 2022. It is now confirmed that Goldberg will in fact be coming back to WWE for a retirement match.
When appearing on ESPN’s SEC Network during College Gameday in a clip that was reposted by WWE’s X account, Goldberg made the announcement that in 2025 he would be making a return to the ring, likely for one last time, before entering retirement officially.
Goldberg hinted that his opponent would probably be Gunther, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion who insulted Goldberg and his family at Bad Blood, leading to the Hall Of Famer jumping the barricade but being ushered away by security. In the aftermath, it was reported that WWE were planning to hold talks with Goldberg.
He explained that there was no current time or date for a match, which would give him time to get into shape and WWE time to build to the bout. Goldberg joins John Cena as another former world champion who will be officially retiring in 2025.
