Gran Metalik Announced For Upcoming GCW Shows

The luchador is set for his first post-WWE appearances

Ascendant independent promotion Game Changer Wrestling have announced that former WWE star Gran Metalik will appear for them at multiple shows in February.

Reverting to his old name Mascara Dorada (which he used in places like CMLL and New Japan prior to being signed by WWE), the luchador will be making appearances for GCW on February 4 (in Houston), February 19 (in Atlantic City) and February 26 (in Los Angeles).

Metalik had previously requested his release in September of last year, before being granted it on November 4 as part of wider roster cuts, with WWE citing budget concerns as the reason.

His Lucha House Party teammate, Lince Dorado, was among those who were also let go. Dorado, like Metalik, had reportedly also been unhappy with his position in the company and had previously requested his release.

Responding to the announcement on Twitter, GCW owner Brett Lauderdale referred to Metalik as his 'favourite wrestler'.

Metalik signed with WWE in 2016 after impressing in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament. He then variously wrestled on NXT, 205 Live and both Raw and SmackDown over the next five years.

His last match took place on the episode of Main Event that aired on September 16, 2021. In it, he teamed with Dorado in a loss to Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo.
