Hangman Page Being Unable To Ever Challenge For The AEW World Title Again Revealed To Be A Gentleman's Agreement

Hangman Page has arguably been the main character of All Elite Wrestling since the promotion was founded back in 2019 but, unless the stipulation is reneged on, he will never be AEW World Champion again after his loss to MJF in a Texas Death Match in the main event of AEW Revolution.

It was announced ahead of Revolution that Page, similar to Cody Rhodes at Full Gear 2019, would never challenge for the AEW World Championship again if he lost at the pay-per-view. Lose Page did, though, ultimately passing out while MJF had him draped over the top rope with a dog collar.

Speaking at the post-Revolution media scrum, AEW CEO Tony Khan revealed it was Hangman Page's idea to do the stipulation and it is a gentleman's agreement between them.

"It's the same thing with Cody. It was a gentleman's handshake with both of them. They both came to me and said, 'I want to put this at stake.' And both of them, I told them, 'That sounds f*cking nuts, dude.' Both of them really wanted to do it and in both cases I said, 'Are you sure?' and they both said, 'Yeah.' So it is an agreement we made. Second time it's happened, and he's somebody that is known for being a man of his word, and we made a verbal agreement, so it's a verbal contract," Khan said.

Cody Rhodes ultimately never went back on the stipulation prior to his AEW departure in 2022. He has since become a three-time WWE Champion since returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38.

Hangman Page is already a two-time AEW World Champion, having first held the belt for 197 days between Full Gear 2021 and Double or Nothing 2022. Page regained the belt at All In 2025 and held it for 133 days until a loss to Samoa Joe at Full Gear 2025.
