Hiroshi Tanahashi Named As President & Representative Director In NJPW Hierarchy Shake-Up

Hiroshi Tanahashi in the new NJPW President

The responsibilities of Hiroshi Tanahashi will be increasing a great deal going forwards. It was announced yesterday by NJPW that the hierarchy at the top of the company would be receiving a change, and this will see former IWGP World Champion Tanahashi take up the mantle as President and Representative Director.

NJPW made a statement on their website explaining that Takami Ohbari would be stepping down from his role as President and Representative Director immediately, with another Director in Michiaki Nishizawa also leaving his position. The voids in their roles will be filled with Tanahashi, along with Hitoshu Matsumoto & Taro Okada, who will become Directors.

Tanahashi is set to address fans on this change and his future at the Wrestle Kingdom 18 event on January 4th. The statement released says;

“Thank you for your ongoing support of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. On January 4 at Belc Presents Wrestle Kingdom 18 in the Tokyo Dome, Hiroshi Tanahashi will address the fans directly in his new role as President. NJPW looks forward to your continued support under the new leadership structure.”

Additionally, a press conference will be held on December 26 in regards to these changes.
