AEW commentator Jim Ross believes Randy Orton's recent work in WWE has him in the conversation for the best heel in the business.

Orton's most recent turn, in early 2020, saw The Viper attack former tag-team partner Edge before facing the Rated R Superstar at WrestleMania 36 and Backlash. Orton then viciously attacked a host of WWE legends, in a return to his Legend Killer gimmick, such as Shawn Michaels, Christian, Ric Flair and The Big Show, before winning the WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre.

Most recently, Orton has been a feud with 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss, setting the former on fire at the close of WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs in December.

Orton's work over the last 12 months has earned him high plaudits from fellow professionals and fans alike, and former WWE employee Ross has hailed the 40-year-old's heelish personality.

When asked if Orton was the best heel in the business right now on the Grilling JR Podcast, Ross said: “He’s there in that conversation. I don’t have any problem saying that. I am also loyal to AEW because they pay me. That shouldn’t be hard for people to figure out.

“Randy’s amazing. He’s always had those great instincts. When we hired Randy, he was in a magical class. Orton was in there with Cena, Lesnar, Batista, Shelton Benjamin and all those guys were players. They could all realistically with the right build up be in a WrestleMania main event and most of them have.”

Orton is set to compete for the WWE Championship once again this Sunday inside the Elimination Chamber, against Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy and Kofi Kingston.
