John Cena In Talks For Suicide Squad Sequel

Who would Cena play?

Sources have told Variety that John Cena (most recently seen verbally immolating Elias at WrestleMania 35) is currently in discussions to take on a role in Warner Bros' sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad.

Production is set to begin on the movie this fall. It is currently slated for an August 2021 release.

It is not known at this time what character Cena would play, should he join the production.

Thus far, Margot Robbie is confirmed for the Suicide Squad follow-up, reprising her role as Harley Quinn. while Jai Courtney is also back as Captain Boomerang. Idris Elba joins the sequel in a currently-unspecified role.

Cena's film resume over the past couple years boasts a handful of noteworthy successes, including the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee, sex comedy Blockers, and animated children's feature Ferdinand.

James Gunn has signed on to write and direct the new Suicide Squad. Comic book movie buffs and wrestling fans alike will understand the connection there, as Gunn is also the writer and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, which co-stars Cena's peer Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer.
