Is the comeback on?

Katsuyori Shibata will make a "major announcement" next week.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced today that The Wrestler will be in attendance at the World Tag League 2021/Best Of Super Juniors 28 finals on Wednesday, December 15 at Ryogoku Kokugikan. Shibata will make a major announcement at the show to the fans in attendance.
Shibata's major announcement comes only weeks after he returned to the squared circle in October and faced Zack Sabre Jr. in an unannounced five-minute UWF Rules Exhibition Match. The former NEVER Openweight Champion then took a back bump following the exhibition and announced he would be back in the ring the next time fans saw him.
Since then, it has been reported that Shibata is still not cleared to wrestle but The Wrestler said last week that his October exhibition match "wasn't the endpoint" and he had a plan so he could eventually return to the ring.
Shibata was forced to retire back in 2017 after he suffered a subdural hematoma following a match with Kazuchika Okada at Sakura Genesis. Shibata underwent emergency surgery following the match and it was believed he would likely never wrestle again due to the nature of the injury.
The former NJPW star then signed with the promotion as the head coach of the LA Dojo and he has trained the next generation of NJPW talent over the last four-and-a-half years.
