Main Event Official For NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

The main event of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom is set

Following today's Declaration of Power event from Ryogoku Kokugikan, the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 17 has been made official.

Kazuchika Okada had already earned a spot in the main event courtesy of his G1 Climax 32 win over Will Ospreay in August. The G1 Climax winner has defended their right to challenge for NJPW's top title in recent years but Okada noted he wouldn't be doing that in 2022.

Who Okada's opponent would be had yet to be determined but that changed today when Jay White defended his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Tama Tonga. Both men fought back and forth for over 30 minutes and White ultimately retained the title, reversing a second rope Gun Stun attempt into a Blade Runner for the win.

If White would defend the title again before Wrestle Kingdom was unknown but Okada made his way to the ring post-match and confirmed he would face his former CHAOS faction-mate in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 17.

With that, it was made official that Jay White will defend his IWGP World Heavyweight Title against Kazuchika Okada on January 4 inside the Tokyo Dome.
