Mercedes Martinez Wins Interim ROH Women’s Championship At Supercard Of Honor 2022

AEW’s Mercedes Martinez defeated Willow Nightingale for the interim ROH Women’s Title

Mercedes Martinez is the Interim Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion after defeating Willow Nightingale for the vacant title at Supercard of Honor 2022.

With ROH Women’s World Champion Deonna Purrazzo unable to wrestle at Supercard of Honor due to outside commitments, ROH Owner Tony Khan set up an interim title match, with the winner likely to face Purrazzo in a title unification match at a later date.

Willow Nightingale wanted to go one better after coming up short in the ROH Women’s World Championship tournament in 2021, and put in a spirited display, coming close to victory after a crushing moonsault. But it was Mercedes Martinez’s night, who threw everything at Willow, before getting the win with a Dragon Sleeper.

Up next will likely be Deonna Purrazzo, and seeing as Martinez has a win over ‘The Virtuosa’ in the past, then surely Mercedes will feel the odds are in her favour. As for Willow Nightingale, this was another spirited display, and even though she failed once again, hopefully third time's the charm.
