Mike Chioda Reveals Vince McMahon 'Loved' R-Truth's Botched United States Championship Victory

R-Truth won the US Title from Shinsuke Nakamura in 2019

Mike Chioda has revealed how WWE Chairman Vince McMahon 'loved' seeing R-Truth win the United States Championship from Shinsuke Nakamura - despite not being booked to win the Title.

R-Truth challenged Nakamura for the US Title on the January 29 2019 episode of SmackDown, rolling up the Champion in a quick match to win the belt. Truth looked visibly confused after the bout and was quickly challenged to an impromptu match by Rusev.

Chioda has admitted Truth winning the Championship was not the booked finish and it was a pure accident, because Truth told the referee the wrong finish. Worried he was going to be blamed by McMahon, Chioda was surprised to find the WWE Chairman absolutely adored what transpired.

Speaking to James Romero of Wrestling Shoot Interviews, Chioda said: “Vince loved it. R-Truth tells me the wrong f***ing finish. ‘You said you were only getting schoolboyed once!’ And he was like, ‘Oh, my bad, dawg, I’m sorry, man.’

"He had the US title or something, 24-hour title… US title, I think. So it was kind of funny. I thought I was gonna get a bunch of heat coming back and Vince was like, ‘That was phenomenal, I loved it!’ I’m like, ‘What? Okay, great.’"
