MTV Studios & Ice Cube Are Bringing Back Celebrity Deathmatch

And Ice Cube is involved too...

MTV studios have announced that Celebrity Deathmatch is making a comeback - and it's going to be produced by Ice Cube.

Cube will be working alongside the Eric Fogel, the creator of the series, and will also be voicing one of the leading characters on the rebooted show. More voice talent will be announced soon. Ice Cube said that he is “Happy to once again be working with Viacom and MTV on a fan favorite like Celebrity Deathmatch and to continue our success together."

At the time of writing, it's currently unknown where the new show will air, but we do know that it will be a weekly series that will broadcast exclusively for a currently undecided subscription video-on-demand service, or a premium broadcast partner next year.

On top of the show returning it's also being reported online that we're going to be getting a new Celebrity Deathmatch game among other products. This is very welcome indeed because the original game was awful.

Chris McCarthy, president of MTV, VH1 and CMT said: “We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favorite.

"Deathmatch was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs – in the wrestling ring.”

The show originally ran from 1998-2002 and then again from 2006-2007, and if you haven't seen it, essentially celebrities, politicians, and other notable people would be turned into clay versions of themselves before they would fight inside a wrestling ring until one of them was killed.
