NJPW Have 'Significant Plans' For Mercedes Moné

Mercedes Moné to be centre of ‘significant plans’ in NJPW

Mercedes Moné may be ‘All Elite’, but due to the working relationship between All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling it’s believed that the ‘CEO’ will be able to work for both companies moving forward.

Moné worked several matches for NJPW before suffering a career-threatening ankle injury in 2023 during an NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship match against Willow Nightingale. A report from Fightful Select states that NJPW had ‘significant plans and hopes’ for Moné as of last month.

Moné was originally slated to defeat Nightingale for the NJPW STRONG Women's Title before plans were changed on the fly due to the injury, and a return match between the two has been teased on AEW TV since Moné’s debut. Indeed, on the April 3 edition of Dynamite, Moné said she’d face the winner of the upcoming TBS Championship clash between Willow and champion Julia Hart at AEW Dynasty.

No details of NJPW’s ‘plans and hopes’ for Moné have been revealed as of writing. NJPW and AEW are believed to be set to co-promote Forbidden Door III in Summer 2024, and with CMLL and STARDOM now also working with AEW and Ring of Honor, then there could be something significant planned for Moné when the proverbial door re-opens.
