One of the biggest talking points that came out of AEW Dynamite this past week came from the singles match between ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey and Shelton Benjamin as they each battled it out for the number two spot inside the Casino Gauntlet match at Full Gear 2025. The end of the match came in very awkward fashion, as the referee stopped counting during a pinfall despite Bailey not kicking out. Benjamin and Bailey would then continue the match and end it after a couple more moves.
It emerged over this week that the reported reason behind the botch came due to Benjamin deciding to change the match on the fly after being satisfied with the superkick he delivered to Bailey. The referee, unbeknownst to these changes, did not realise that the finish had come around slightly early. When it comes to blame and heat for this moment, Fightful Select have learned more.
It was explained that there was no heat on anyone involved in this instance, though it was “stressed” that audibles are frowned upon due to the likes of the referee and agent not being in the know, leading to botches and miscommunications, such as what happened on Dynamite.
