Powerhouse Hobbs won't be using that name in WWE, it has been revealed.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported that the expectation is Hobbs will have an altered name at the very least whenever he appears on WWE programming. Hobbs may not begin his WWE career as part of NXT either, with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp noting he had heard the pitch from WWE was for Hobbs to appear on the main roster.
Powerhouse Hobbs finished up with All Elite Wrestling on Wednesday night after working the Collision Maximum Carnage tapings which saw him, Samoa Joe, and Katsuyori Shibata drop the AEW World Trios Championships to Hangman Page and JetSpeed.
Hobbs' deal with AEW expired at the end of Wednesday and AEW were interested in retaining Hobbs. They reportedly made him a "huge" offer but Hobbs ultimately turned down the deal and he is WWE bound. Hobbs ended his time in AEW on good terms.
Powerhouse Hobbs had been a part of AEW since 2020, and in addition to his AEW World Trios Title reign, Hobbs was a former one-time TNT Champion.
WWE had been interested in Hobbs for several years, and Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE expected the 34-year-old to join the company for months.
