Powerhouse Hobbs Wins AEW TNT Title On Dynamite

Thanks to an unexpected assist

Powerhouse Hobbs is the new AEW TNT champion, after defeating Wardlow in the main event of Wednesday night's Dynamite in Sacramento.

Late in the contest, Wardlow and Hobbs were brawling up by the commentary desk when Wardlow was suddenly struck with a chair by QT Marshall. Marshall then landed several more chair strikes to knock Wardlow out.

Marshall assisted Hobbs in lifting Wardlow up for a tandem powerbomb, throwing Wardlow off the entrance stage through a small staging platform below. Referee Paul Turner rendered a ten-count on the motionless Wardlow, giving Hobbs the win.

During Wednesday's Dynamite, the match was changed from standard rules to a Falls Count Anywhere match. This was in part due to Wardlow not having his ring gear (along with the TNT title belt), after his car was broken into between Revolution and Dynamite. Both he and Hobbs wrestled in street clothes, and began the match in the parking lot.

For Hobbs, it's his first championship of any sort in AEW. AEW did have a back-up version of the TNT belt for Hobbs to hold up after his win.

Wardlow's second reign as TNT champion ends after just three days. He won the title from Samoa Joe at Sunday's Revolution pay-per-view in San Francisco.
