Reason Braun Strowman Was Stripped Of WWE Royal Rumble Universal Title Match Revealed

Nothing to do with an injury, apparently...

Last night's WWE Raw kicked off with Braun Strowman cutting a promo. That promo was interrupted by Baron Corbin, who goaded The Monster Among Men into chasing him through the backstage area. Then, Elias let Strowman know that Corbin was hiding inside Vince McMahon's limo, which then saw Braun kick a wing mirror off the car before he ripped one of its doors off.

A dumbfounded Vince McMahon fined Strowman $100,000. Braun then shouted at Vince, who didn't like the backchat - stripping Strowman of his Universal Championship match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view against Brock Lesnar on top of the fine.

The reason for Braun being taken out of the Rumble PPV has nothing to do with his recent elbow injury, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave claimed that Vince wanted to do Braun vs. Brock at the Rumble, but then changed his mind because he didn't want to cool Braun off with another loss to The Beast - Brock has already won a couple of singles matches against the former Mr. Monster In The Bank, most notably at No Mercy 2017 and last year's Crown Jewel event.

Despite picking Balor as Strowman's replacement a few weeks ago, Meltzer believes that McMahon continued to promote the MAM vs. Lesnar because it would sell more tickets than Balor vs. Brock...
