AEW Dynamite aired from the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California on Wednesday, February 18, and the show underwent heavy rewrites due to a sickness bug and injuries coming out of Grand Slam Australia.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that there were no rewrites for the main event of Kenny Omega vs. Swerve Strickland or the four-way for the TBS Championship, but much of the show had to be changed. One of the changes saw The Beast Mortos booked on Dynamite against Kevin Knight.
"I was told in the afternoon that this show was completely rewritten. Not completely. Omega/Swerve was exactly what it was going to be, and I think that the four-way women’s TBS Championship was what it was going to be. There were a lot of illnesses, both people from Australia and I think there were some injuries too. There were. There were some injuries. There were a lot of illnesses from people, some in Australia, but a lot who didn't go, so the feeling was that somebody must have been sick last Wednesday and a lot of people got it, because people who were not in Australia also got sick all at the same time. So it was like a skeleton crew in a lot of ways. I know Mortos was not scheduled for the show, to wrestle on the show. He was a replacement," Meltzer said.
Which other segments on AEW Dynamite were changed has not been revealed. The unchanged main event of Kenny Omega vs. Swerve Strickland was heavily praised and featured a heel turn from Strickland as he put Omega through the announce table with a vertebreaker after the match.
It has been reported the match took place on February 18 instead of at Revolution due to Kenny Omega having a scheduling conflict.
